Russell Squares are currently on summer holidays.  That doesn’t mean that we are completely inactive.

At the moment, we are looking forward to our first (annual?) picnic at a member’s cottage.  Here’s hoping the weather will be perfect!!

The next thing on our schedule is participation in the Russell Agricultural Society Annual Fair (https://russellagriculturalsociety.com/russell-fair/).  We are very excited about that!

  • We will have an information booth in the arena (if I remember right!) – drop by to say hello and enter your name into a draw to win a knapsack filled with goodies!
  • We’ll also be dancing – FIVE times!!!! (Check the Russell Fair’s website – see above – for the schedule.)  Come and watch, or – better yet – participate. 😊 Whether or not you’ve ever done any Modern Square Dancing before, you’ll be welcome to join in the dancing.  If necessary, we’ll teach a few steps and you’ll be looking like a pro in no time!

After that, on Friday evening, September 5, we’re having a drop-in open house for people to try their hands (feet?) at square dancing.  Come on over to the Frank Kinnaird Community Hall in the Russell Arena (1084 Concession St, Russell ON K4R 1A6) for a quick “Intro to Modern Square Dancing”.  No experience necessary!  Just a fun hour and a half of some simple, basic dance steps.  6:30 – 8:00 pm. Ages 10 and up are welcome.  $5 per person.

Modern Square Dancing

Modern Square Dancing is not what you think it is. We still Dosido and Swing our partner, but we also do things like Grand Square, Lead Right and Veer Left – and we do it to all kind of music (New Country, Old Country, Classic Rock, Top 40, Jazz, Alternative, Easy Listening, etc.). It certainly is not the dancing our grandparents did. It’s a bit more challenging and too much fun to not at least give it a try! Ages 10+.

St. Mother Teresa Catholic School,
1035 Concession Street, Russell.

Fridays, September 20 to November 29, 6:30p.m. to 8:00p.m. No classes on October 11.

$96+ HST per resident.
$106+ HST per non-resident.
